Obama Gives Go-Ahead to Destroy Moon

WASHINGTON - President Obama has officially ordered the moon’s complete annihilation. When approached for comment, the White House said this controversial decision “reemphasizes this administration’s message to the United States - it addresses the concerns our people have regarding national debt.”
“People don’t seem to realize how many billions of dollars maintenance of the moon requires,” says Obama. “It would just be so much easier to get rid of it.”
Unsurprisingly, this development has caused outrage amongst environmentalists. “What do you think is going to happen to the tides,” says marine biologist Cynthia Goldberg. “The moon critically impacts all life on this planet. Without it, the Earth will be a drastically altered, most likely uninhabitable hunk of rock. I urge President Obama to reconsider.”
Regardless of the mass effort to halt this legislation, the moon is slated to be destroyed on June 18th, 2012.

Leaving aside the question whether Obama will prioritize his new War on Marriage over his old War on Christmas, I think it’s really odd that Fox routinely chooses the trope of warfare to cast a negative light on something President Obama says. After all, Fox typically seems pretty supportive of warfare …

“I am confident that the supreme court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress,” Obama said.

The president chided Republicans for making “judicial activism” an election issue, by objecting to rulings ranging from the supreme court’s finding of a right to abortion to the recent striking down by federal judges of a referendum barring gay marriage in California, while pressing the judiciary to overturn the will of Congress.

“I’d just remind conservative commentators that, for years, what we have heard is, the biggest problem on the bench was judicial activism, or a lack of judicial restraint, that an unelected group of people would somehow overturn a duly constituted and passed law,” Obama said. “Well, this is a good example, and I’m pretty confident that this court will recognise that and not take that step.”

While the court is certainly not looking the best today, what with this decision and all, is it really Obama’s spot to say this? Then again, Obama does have a history of criticizing the court when it comes to unpopular cases.

Yes, why not. It doesn’t infringe on the separation of powers to simply criticise the court does it? 

Well, I should hope the president has a spot to criticize the Court because presidents have been doing it since the Court’s inception.

Washington, DC: Hundreds rallied outside the notorious AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) conference on March 4, 2012, chanting as President Obama’s limousine drove by. Combining support for Palestinian statehood and demands for NO WAR ON IRAN, protesters marched right up to the front steps of the DC Convention Center, where they spoke and chanted against the war mongers inside.

It shows that only about half of Israelis think that the result  of such a strike would be a delay in Iran’s nuclear program lasting  more than a couple of years, and 12% believe it would accelerate the  program.  A fifth think it would have no effect at all.
…As for their preference for a US president, Barack Obama has a slight  lead among Israeli Jews over Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich, and a big  lead over Rick Santorum and Ron Paul.  Given that all the GOP candidates  but Paul have virtually joined the Likud Party and committed verbal  genocide against the Palestinians, it is remarkable how little swayed  Israeli Jews have been by these extravagant positions.  Obama remains  relatively popular with Israeli Jews, not despite his commitment to a  peace process rejected by the Likud government but because of it. >continue<

Although public opinion (at least in the US) often has little to do with either rationality or truth, it appears to say something when large numbers of Israeli’s harbour doubts - even up against the supposed “existential threat” posed by Iran.

» Approximately one-sixth of Americans received one or more additional preventive care services in 2011, as a direct result of the Affordable Care Act, according to a newly released report from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

Over 20 million adult women received an additional service, as well as 14 million children, and just under 20 million adult men. Of the 50 states, Wyoming had the fewest patients (102,000) receive a new service while California took the cake with more than 6 million patients, over 2 million more than 2nd place Texas, receiving at least one new preventive service last year.
